Today Matters Privacy Policy
Our Privacy Promise
Today Matters exists to help you see the truth about how you spend your time and live more intentionally. Your personal data belongs to you. We do not use it for advertising. We do not share it with data brokers. We do not use your personal content to train artificial intelligence models for unrelated products.
Our policy is simple: you own your data. Period.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, how we protect it, when we share it, how long we keep it, and how you can access, export, correct, delete, or revoke access to your data.

4. Information We Collect
We collect information in the following categories, depending on what features you use and what permissions you grant.
4.1 Account Information
We may collect your name, email address, authentication method, account identifiers, time zone, subscription status, device platform, and basic account settings. If you sign in with Apple, Google, Microsoft, or another supported identity provider, we receive the account information that provider makes available to us, such as your name, email address, and authentication identifier.
4.2 Profile and Life Model Information
You may choose to provide information such as your Life Mission Statement, core values, ideal day, goals, initiatives, tasks, habits, commitments, reminders, routines, prayer preferences, relationship priorities, VIP contacts, job title, company, church, coaching preferences, and other information you enter into the Service.
4.3 Calendar Information
If you authorize calendar access, we may access and process calendar events and related metadata such as event title, description, date, time, duration, recurrence, location, meeting link, attendees, organizer, response status, and related identifiers. We use this information to show your schedule, build your event timeline, help you plan and review your day, provide analytics, and help Anchor answer questions or make recommendations inside Today Matters.
4.4 Contacts Information
If you authorize contacts access, we may access and process contact information such as names, email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, relationship labels you assign, notes you create, photos where available, and contact identifiers. We use this information to help you identify people in your life, show relationship context, connect events to people, support VIP contacts, and help you follow up with people you choose.
We do not use your contacts to build an independent contact database for our own use, sale, or distribution. We do not contact your contacts unless you intentionally initiate that action through Today Matters.
4.5 User Content
We collect the content you create, upload, enter, record, or generate in the Service, including goals, tasks, habits, commitments, notes, journals, prayer notes, prayer requests, reviews, wins, reflections, reminders, alarms, tags, preferences, Anchor conversations, and related records.
4.6 Location, Motion, and Activity Information
If you enable location-based features, Today Matters collects and processes location data from your device, which may include approximate location, precise location, location timestamps, places visited, arrival and departure patterns, travel-related signals, and related location metadata. Today Matters may collect this location data while you are using the app and, if you grant background location permission, while the app is closed or not in use.
Where available and authorized, Today Matters may also collect motion or activity data, such as whether your device indicates you are stationary, walking, running, cycling, or traveling in a vehicle. We use location, motion, and activity data only to provide user-facing Today Matters features, such as building your actual-day timeline, helping you understand where your time went, estimating travel time, supporting location-aware event analysis, identifying time-at-place patterns, improving end-of-day reviews, and helping Anchor provide context-aware insights.
We do not use location, motion, or activity data for advertising, retargeting, data brokerage, or unrelated profiling. We do not sell this data.
4.7 Payment and Subscription Information
Subscriptions may be processed through Apple, Google, or another authorized payment provider. We do not store your full payment card number. We may receive information such as subscription status, product identifier, transaction identifier, renewal status, expiration date, cancellation status, and limited billing-related metadata needed to provide the subscription.
4.8 App Usage, Product Analytics, Screen Time, and Device App Activity
Today Matters collects information about how you use the Today Matters app, such as app launches, session activity, screens or features viewed, buttons or controls tapped, setup progress, feature completion, searches performed inside the Service, Anchor feature usage, review completion, reminders created or completed, navigation paths, preferences selected, and other interactions with the Service.
If you enable screen-time, app-usage, or device-activity features, Today Matters may also collect information about how apps are used on your device, such as app names or identifiers, app categories, app usage duration, app foreground activity, approximate start and stop times, frequency of use, screen-time patterns, device-activity signals, and related usage metadata. Depending on your device settings and the permissions you grant, this data may be collected while you are using Today Matters and may also be collected or updated when Today Matters is closed or not actively in use.
We use app usage, product analytics, screen-time, and device app-activity information only to provide, operate, secure, debug, improve, and personalize Today Matters and to provide user-facing features. These features may include helping you understand digital habits, distraction patterns, focus time, app usage, routines, actual-day activity, alignment with your priorities, end-of-day reviews, analytics, reminders, nudges, and Anchor insights.
We may store app usage, product analytics, screen-time, and device app-activity information with your account or in analytics, logging, diagnostic, security, or product systems operated by us or our service providers. Anchor may use this information, along with your other Today Matters data, to provide user-facing summaries, recommendations, reminders, reviews, and responses.
We do not use app usage, product analytics, screen-time, or device app-activity information for third-party advertising, retargeting, data brokerage, sale, or unrelated profiling. We do not sell this data. You may disable or limit screen-time, app-usage, or device-activity permissions through your device settings, but related Today Matters features may stop working or become less accurate.
4.9 Technical, Diagnostic, and Security Information
We collect technical information needed to operate and secure the Service, such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, approximate location derived from IP address, log data, crash reports, error diagnostics, performance data, security events, and usage events within the Service. We use this information for security, debugging, reliability, fraud prevention, support, and product improvement.
5. Information We Do Not Collect or Use
We do not collect personal data from data brokers. We do not track you across third-party apps or websites for advertising. We do not use third-party advertising SDKs. We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your personal content to train unrelated AI products.
6. Google User Data and Limited Use Commitment
If you choose to connect your Google account, Today Matters will request only the Google permissions that are needed for features available in the Service. For the first public release, this means Google Calendar and Contacts access.
Today Matters' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:
- We use Google user data only to provide or improve user-facing Today Matters features that are visible and prominent in the app.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising, retargeting, personalized ads, or interest-based advertising.
- We do not sell, rent, or transfer Google user data to data brokers, advertising platforms, or information resellers.
- We do not use Google user data to determine credit-worthiness or for lending purposes.
- We do not allow humans to read Google user data except when you give us affirmative permission for support, when necessary for security, when required by law, or when data has been aggregated and used for internal operations in accordance with applicable law.
- We protect Google user data with appropriate security controls, including encryption in transit and at rest where applicable.
- We request only the minimum relevant permissions needed for the app features you use.
You may revoke Today Matters' access to your Google account at any time through Today Matters account settings, if available, or through your Google Account permissions page. Disconnecting Google stops new Google data from syncing. You may also request deletion of previously synced Google data as described in this Policy.
7. Artificial Intelligence and Anchor
Anchor is Today Matters' AI assistant. If you use Anchor, we may send the minimum relevant context needed to answer your request or provide the feature, such as your schedule, goals, reminders, contacts, notes, reviews, or conversation history, to AI service providers that process the information on our behalf.
We use AI service providers only to provide or improve Today Matters features for you. We do not permit our service providers to use your personal content to train AI models for unrelated products, except where we have clearly disclosed that practice and obtained any required consent. Anchor may generate voice / audio suggestions, summaries, draft responses, reminders, reviews, or insights. You remain responsible for reviewing any AI-generated content before relying on it or sending it to others.
8. How We Use Information
We use personal data to:
- Provide, personalize, and operate the Service.
- Authenticate users and protect accounts.
- Sync authorized calendar and contact data.
- Display Events, Locations, Reviews, Goals, Notes, Prayer, Reminders, and related features.
- Generate user-facing summaries, insights, recommendations, and search results.
- Provide Anchor and related AI features.
- Send service messages, security alerts, support responses, and product updates.
- Process subscriptions and maintain account status.
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, and technical issues.
- Improve app reliability, performance, usability, accessibility, and product quality.
- Comply with applicable law, legal process, and enforceable obligations.
9. How We Share Information
We share personal data only in the limited circumstances described below.
9.1 Service Providers
We use service providers to operate the Service, such as cloud hosting, database storage, authentication, error monitoring, analytics for app reliability, AI processing, voice processing, email delivery, customer support, and payment/subscription processing. These providers may process personal data only to provide services to us and are required to protect personal data consistent with this Policy and applicable law.
9.2 With Your Direction or Consent
We may share information when you direct us to do so, such as when you connect an account, export data, authorize an integration, or request support involving specific data.
9.3 Legal and Safety Reasons
We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, court order, or other valid legal process, or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, security, or integrity of users, the Service, or others. We will disclose only what we believe is necessary and, when legally permitted, will notify you of requests for your information.
9.4 Business Transfers
If Today Matters or The Data Group, LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, personal data may be transferred as part of that transaction. Any successor must honor the protections in this Policy or provide notice and obtain any required consent before using your data in a materially different way.
9.5 Aggregated or De-Identified Information
We may use aggregated or de-identified information to understand product performance, improve the Service, develop privacy-preserving insights, or provide user-facing benchmarks. We do not attempt to re-identify de-identified information, and we do not disclose information that identifies you personally in public benchmarks.
10. What We Will Never Do
We will never:
- Sell your personal data.
- Rent, lease, or trade your personal data.
- Share your personal data with data brokers.
- Use your personal data for third-party advertising.
- Use Google user data for advertising, retargeting, or personalized advertising.

- Require you to grant unnecessary permissions as a condition of using paid functionality.

11. User Choices and Controls
You control the data sources you connect and the permissions you grant.
You may:
- Access your data in the app.
- Correct data that is inaccurate.
- Export your data, where available.
- Delete individual records, connected-source data, or your account.
- Disconnect Google or other connected accounts.
- Revoke device permissions through your device settings.
- Turn off optional features, notifications, or integrations where available.
- Enable, disable, or change access to calendar, contacts and location.
- Contact us for help with data access, deletion, correction, or portability.
If you revoke a permission, some features may stop working because they depend on that data source. We will not collect new data from a disconnected source, but previously synced data may remain in your account until you delete it or request deletion.
12. Account Deletion and Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and personal data through the app using the delete account function. You may also request deletion of your account and personal data by emailing us at: youownyourdata@todaymatters.app
When you delete your account, we delete your personal data associated with your account from active systems within 30 days, unless retention is required by law, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or financial recordkeeping obligations. Encrypted backups may retain deleted data for a limited period until overwritten in the ordinary course of backup rotation, typically within 90 days. During that period, backup data is not used for ordinary business purposes.
Certain records may be retained in limited form when necessary, such as payment records, security logs, audit logs, legal records, or records needed to comply with law. We do not retain your personal content longer than necessary for the purposes described in this Policy.
13. Data Retention
We keep personal data for as long as needed to provide the Service, maintain your account, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, protect security, and fulfill the purposes described in this Policy.
Connected source data is retained while your account is active and the source remains connected, unless you delete it earlier. Anchor conversations, notes, reviews, goals, and other user-created content are retained until you delete them or delete your account, subject to backup retention described above.
14. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, loss, or misuse. These safeguards may include encryption in transit, encryption at rest where appropriate, access controls, authentication controls, logging, monitoring, restricted personnel access, and security review processes.
No system can be guaranteed to be perfectly secure. If we learn of a security incident that affects your personal data, we will notify you and regulators as required by applicable law.
15. International Data Transfers
Today Matters is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where we or our service providers operate. We use appropriate safeguards where required by applicable law.
16. Children's Privacy
Today Matters is intended for adults who are at least 18 years old. The Service is not directed to children or teenagers, and users under 18 are not permitted to create accounts or use the Service.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from anyone under 18. If we learn that a person under 18 has created an account or provided personal information to Today Matters, we will take reasonable steps to delete the account and related personal information, unless we are legally required to retain certain limited information.
Because Today Matters is not directed to children under 13, we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information directly from a child under 13 without legally valid parental consent, we will delete that information as required by applicable law.
Adult users may choose to enter limited information about family members or other people in their lives, including children, as part of user-facing features such as contacts, relationship priorities, events, reminders, notes, reviews, or prayer-related content. We use that information only to provide the Service to the adult account holder and in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Adult users are responsible for ensuring they have any rights or permissions required to provide information about other people.
If you believe that a child or teenager has provided personal information to us or created an account, please contact us at: youownyourdata@todaymatters.app.
17. Location Data
Today Matters uses location data only for user-facing features that help you understand your actual day, time at places, travel time, routines, and alignment with your priorities. If you grant background location permission, location collection may continue when the app is closed or not in use. You can disable location access at any time through your device settings, but location-based features may stop working or become less accurate. We do not use location, motion, or activity data for advertising, marketing, or data mining.
18. Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, to withdraw consent, and to appeal or lodge a complaint with a regulator. We extend core access, correction, deletion, and export rights to all users where reasonably available.
To exercise privacy rights, use the tools in the app or contact youownyourdata@todaymatters.app. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests.
19. California and Other U.S. State Privacy Notices
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of minors. We do not use sensitive personal information for purposes other than providing, securing, and improving the Service as described in this Policy.
The categories of personal information we may collect are described in Section 4. The purposes for collection are described in Sections 3 and 8. The categories of third parties or service providers to whom we disclose information are described in Section 9. You may exercise rights described in Section 19.
20. Do Not Track and Advertising Signals
Today Matters does not use third-party advertising trackers and does not track you across third-party apps or websites for advertising. Some browsers or devices may transmit "Do Not Track" or similar signals. Because we do not engage in tracking for advertising, we do not respond to those signals in a separate manner.
21. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the app, by email, or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect where required. If we materially change how we use Google user data or other sensitive data, we will update this Policy and obtain any required consent before using that data in a new way.
22. Contact Us
For privacy questions, data requests, deletion requests, or concerns, contact:
